IRTG Spring School 2012, Heidelberg

IRTG Spring School 2012, Heidelberg, 7-11 May 2012

From the airport to the main train-station Heidelberg

If you need any assistance in getting from the Airport to Heidelberg, or in any emergency case as far as your participation in the School is concerned, please, call Krzysztof Wisniewski, whose telephone number you should have gotten by email.

IMPORTANT ! No lunch will be served for you on Monday, before the lectures, and on Friday, after the students seminars. Except this, lunches will be provided.

Accommodation

Participants from outise Heidelberg will be accommodated in the Hotel Kohler, Goethestraße 2.

Prticipants should not pay their bills in the Hotel. It will go directly to our secretary. It should be enough to show up in the hotel, tell them your name and that you belong to the school organized by the Physics Institute of the University.

From the station to the hotel

Hotel Kohler, Goethestraße 2, is located about 1 km from the Main Train Station (Hauptbahnhof - HBF). One may try to walk from the station to the hotel, but depending on the conditions, it may take 20-30 minutes.

If you decide to take the public transportation, you should go to the tram/bus stop in front of the Main Station. Be carefull to choose the proper stop, marked HBF on the enclosed view. From here you can take tram 5 direction Weinheim/viernheim, tram 21 direction Bismarckplatz, bus 33 deirection Ziegelhausen or bus 34 direction Heiligkreuzstein and always get of at the bus/tram stop Poststr , which is close to the Hotel Kohler.

IMPORTANT ! Please, buy a ticket from a ticket-machine, located in the tram/bus stop, before you enter any bus or tram, and validate it onboard. Sometimes it is not possible to buy a ticket once you are onboard. You can choose the english language when operating the ticket-machine.

Lecture site

All the lectures will take place in the new building of the Physics Institute (PI) of the Faculty of Physics, Im Neunheimer Feld 226, Room 00.XX (ground floor). Please do not be mistaken by the information given on the web-page of the PI, which in the secion "Getting here/Anreise" still points to the old location of the PI in the Philosophenweg 12. This is absolutely wrong by now. Instead, the new location is close to the building of the Kirchhoff-Institut für Physik on the University Campus.

From the hotel to the PI

Go to the tram stop Poststr, take the tram tram 21 direction Handschuhsheim, and get off at the tram stop Bunsengymnasium.

From the station to the PI

If you are arriving late, and need to go to the lectures immediately, without passing through the hotel, you should go the bus/tram stop HBF, take the tram 21 direction Handschuhsheim or tram 24 direction Handschuhsheim and get off at the tram stop Bunsengymnasium.

Others

Here you can find a plan of Heidelberg, on which relevant places are marked again.

Here you can find the page of the public transportation in Heidelberg.

One single ticket with which you can travel one way through whole Heidelberg costs 2,20 Eur. You can buy a block of 5 such tickets at once, and then it will cost you 1,90 Eur per ticket. There is also a single ticket called City, with which you can go, for example, from the trainstation to the hotel and vice versa. It costs 1,10 Eur. But unfortunatelly, to go to the KIP you already need a normal ticket, the one for 2,20/1,90 Eur.

You can also choose to buy a 24-hours or 3-days ticket for one person, or a group ticket for up to 5 persons, valid for one 1-day.
